WASHINGTON, N.H. (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wpri.com\/weather\/winter-weather\/mt-washington-records-coldest-wind-chill-in-u-s-history\/\" target=\"_blank\">WPRI<\/a>) \u2013 New Hampshire\u2019s Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast, recorded the coldest wind chill in the history of the United States on Saturday morning&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wpri.com\/weather\/pinpoint-weather-alerts\/weather-alert-record-cold-dangerous-wind-chills-ahead\/\" target=\"_blank\">when an arctic air mass<\/a>&nbsp;hit New England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountwashington.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mount Washington Observatory<\/a>&nbsp;recorded a new, record-low air temperature of -46.9 degrees Fahrenheit as of Saturday morning at 4:10 a.m, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountwashington.org\/experience-the-weather\/current-summit-conditions.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overnight summit conditions.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The previous record daily low of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MWObs\/status\/1621596962414891009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">-32 degrees Fahrenheit<\/a>&nbsp;was set in 1963.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The previous wind chill record was shattered overnight, when wind chills dropped to -108.4 degrees at different points on Friday night and Saturday morning. The previous record was -102.7 degrees Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWinds will also remain elevated Saturday morning, with wind speeds ranging from 100-115 mph with gusts up to 135 mph,\u201d the observatory wrote in a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mountwashington.org\/experience-the-weather\/mount-washington-weather.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">summit forecast<\/a>&nbsp;on Saturday. \u201cStrong winds and harsh cold temperatures will continue to produce dangerously low wind chill values, with wind chill values remaining at 100 below to 110 below Saturday morning.null<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The record-cold temps come amid what experts call a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/3842655-new-england-braces-for-generational-cold-blast\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cgenerational Arctic outbreak\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;throughout the Northeast, a branch of the National Weather Service (NWS) told&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/02\/weather\/winter-storm-south-northeast-us\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Saturday morning, dangerously cold temperatures remained, along with wind chills that dropped to -45 to -50 degrees Fahrenheit in many areas.
