{"id":6942,"date":"2023-11-10T22:15:37","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T22:15:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.dankohn.info\/?p=6942"},"modified":"2023-12-07T21:02:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T21:02:40","slug":"first-control-systems-call-for-proposals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.dankohn.info\/index.php\/2023\/11\/10\/first-control-systems-call-for-proposals\/","title":{"rendered":"FIRST Control Systems call for proposals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstinspires.org\/robotics\/frc\/blog\/2023-future-control-system-rfp-released?utm_content=271452712&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook&amp;hss_channel=fbp-378744932190811\">FIRST Robotics Competition Blog<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in September, <em>FIRST<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Robotics Competition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstinspires.org\/robotics\/frc\/blog\/2023-technology-updates-past-present-future-and-beyond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> that we would be publishing a public Request for Proposal (RFP) for a new robot controller for the program to use beginning in the 2027 season. First, a huge \u201cthank you!\u201d to all of the folks from our community that provided feedback on the proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Request for Proposal is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstinspires.org\/sites\/default\/files\/uploads\/resource_library\/frc\/frc-ftc-RFP-2027-robot-controller.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">live on the <em>FIRST<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you read it, you\u2019ll notice a change on the document. When this project was started, the focus was on a robot controller for <em>FIRST <\/em>Robotics Competition only. As we worked through the requirements, we found substantial overlap with the controller requirements for <em>FIRST<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Tech Challenge, which will need a new controller on a similar timeframe. So, the RFP has been updated to include both programs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The benefits of a common controller for both programs include the ability for volunteers to support the system (both team mentors and event volunteers), student skill transfer between the two programs (in both directions) and reduced \u201cswitching cost\u201d of teams moving between the two programs or participating in both at once.
